Energy from Waste

Van Gansewinkel Groep extracts as much raw material as possible from waste. Sometimes waste composition is such that existing techniques cannot extract anything more. At this stage, the waste has another useful destination: as fuel for our
energy-from-waste plants.

The heat from the incineration process is used to heat water to steam. On one hand, steam is used to heat houses or industrial plants and on the other it drives a turbine where electricity is produced. This is how waste incineration becomes energy and reduces the need for further depletion of existing and scarce raw materials such as coal, gas and oil supplies.

The net energy production of our energy-from-waste plants in Rozenburg and Duiven equal the annual energy consumption of about 200,000 households. Every year,
Van Gansewinkel Groep processes 1.8 million tons of waste in its energy-from-waste plants. A single bin bag provides enough energy for seven individual showers.
