Government

The market for collecting domestic waste is changing dynamically. The government wishes to reduce the volume of waste we produce and at the same time keep waste processing costs as low as possible. Separating waste into a number of main flows such as kitchen & garden waste, glass, paper/cardboard and residual waste is one of the methods used to achieve this objective. Waste separation can be encouraged with an active publicity campaign.

The introduction of producer responsibility for, among other things, cars, car tyres, electronic equipment and packaging has led to a shift in waste collection and processing costs from refuse collection costs/taxes to a waste disposal fee payable when products are purchased has also contributed in this respect.
